The owner of a Mini Clubman reported a persistent knocking noise upon starting the vehicle and a rattling noise while in gear. These symptoms raised concerns regarding the safety and reliability of the vehicle. The vehicle was brought into our workshop for a comprehensive diagnosis and repair.
Upon receiving the Mini Clubman, our team of certified mechanics conducted an initial assessment, focusing on the areas commonly associated with the described noises. This assessment included a visual and auditory examination of the engine compartment, as well as a test drive to replicate the conditions mentioned by the owner.
The diagnostic process revealed that the source of the knocking and rattling noises was a severely damaged driver's side engine mount. The engine mount, which is crucial for securing the engine to the vehicle's chassis and reducing vibrations, was found to be badly split. This damage led to the two metal components of the mount touching each other, creating the concerning noises reported by the vehicle owner.
