When “Forward Collision Alert” Isn’t What It Seems

A Kia Sorento recently rolled into our workshop with a “Check Forward Collision Alert” warning lighting up the dash. At first glance, you might assume it’s a direct issue with the vehicle’s collision avoidance system — but as we know, modern cars love to keep us guessing.

We connected our diagnostic scan tool to dig a little deeper, and it didn’t take long to uncover the real culprit — an ABS fault code linked to a rear wheel speed sensor. A quick resistance check on both rear sensors confirmed it: the left-hand wheel speed sensor was out of spec.

After replacing the faulty sensor and clearing the codes, the warning disappeared, and the Sorento was back to perfect health.

This job was a great reminder that today’s vehicles are highly interconnected. One small fault — even in an unrelated system — can trigger a cascade of warnings that seem completely disconnected from the real problem.

At Automotive Obsession, we take the guesswork out of diagnostics. If your dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree, don’t panic — and definitely don’t guess. Let our expert team find the real issue and get you safely back on the road.
